Every writer needs a space to be creative: an idyllic writing retreat, a cosy room, no interruptions and all meals, hot drinks and snacks provided. Like-minded company on most of my Friday-Sunday writers’ retreats. No chores, no daily routine to distract you, and the luxury of feeling looked after from dinner on your day of arrival to lunch on departure day.

I also welcome you if you need some time out for any other reason – or just to relax and get a good night’s sleep. I’m offering complete respite from life’s distractions. A writers’ retreat, deep in the heart of beautiful Staffordshire, that space is waiting for you. This is your time. I guarantee it.

Facilities

I offer quiet comfortable rooms in a countryside cottage with a roaring open fire and a beautiful garden overlooking the countryside as well as writing room in the garden. You can be as solitary or as sociable as you choose. There are five village pubs within walking distance and just one mile from the door a beautiful marina with olde worlde shops too.

Testimonials

'I had a very productive and fun time on a writing retreat at Christie Barlow’s. Christie is a superb host who has created a relaxing and homely place to enable authors to get away from everyday stresses and focus on their writing. With delicious home-cooked meals, a comfy bed and a glass of wine it’s the perfect writing retreat.'

A fabulous cosy retreat to dedicate your energy and time to your current manuscript. Accommodation and writing areas are excellent offering participants a choice regarding where they work. Delicious home cooked meals and the surrounding countryside make ‘downtime’ and coffee breaks extra special.
Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Last morning of my weekend writing retreat with @christie_barlow in Staffordshire & it’s been absolutely brilliant. Accommodation is lovely, been fed until we were about to pop, and there has been lots of laughter & book chat.

How has the writing gone? Oh yes, that! I’ve got absolutely loads of work done, sorted out some plot issues, been motivated with great tips and had really positive feedback on work we’ve shared, so it’s been fantastic for progress on my book.

If you can get down here for a retreat, I would highly recommend it, already looking at booking another.

A weekend writing retreat with Christie Barlow isn't just a writing retreat: it's a tough love boot camp, a therapy and spa session and weekend with the girls all in one. From the moment I stepped into Christie's beautiful home I was made to feel instantly at home and the positive vibes, creativity and overwhelming support from Christie and my lovely co-writer have lasted well beyond the weekend. Christie is so generous with her time and expertise that I ironed out all the knots in my wip, obtained a much clearer focus of my immediate and longer term goals, and feel more determined than ever - did I mention that she's tremendously good fun too? I was sad to leave, but am already looking forward to the next one.

It was my first time at Christie's weekend writing retreat but from the moment I stepped into the delightful cottage I was made to feel entirely welcome and at home. The facilities are perfect for focusing on your writing. I got far more accomplished than I had planned for! The evenings were filled with delicious homemade food, lots of great writerly talk and much laughter too! I actually felt sad leaving on Sunday and very much look forward to booking with Christie again.
