What I first noticed about Right Here Waiting for You by Rebecca Pugh was the cover of her latest novel, and I knew that this book was right here waiting for me, it stood out from the crowd and had me chomping at the bit to start reading. As soon as my copy arrived, that was it, life at home stopped and I delved straight in, indulging myself for a whole weekend.
We follow the two main characters, Magda and Sophia whose gorgeous names I gasped at, already this novel oozed charm from the outset!
Magda used to be the girl everyone wanted to be – most likely to achieve her every wish. That is until suddenly her perfect life seems to be anything but!
Sophia has never regretted her life, sure it isn’t perfect, but being a single mum to a daughter she loves is pretty great. Perhaps she never moved away from home, or got to live out her dreams, but what she has right now isn’t so bad.
Both girls left school with their lives ahead of them, they promised they would be best friends forever however life is never that simple … Just what happened to drive these friends apart? Now they are both grown up, neither leading the life they’d both dreamt of but when an invitation out of the blue arrives inviting them to a school reunion they are thrown into a spin. Is it time to put the past behind them and that one big mistake that happened all those years ago …
Pugh excels in the characters she creates because you do really come to care about them. The book is infused with humour and there is no disputing she writes romance wonderfully, a real heart-warming book.
Perfect read for a lazy day in the sunshine.
